World Congress 2020: Call for Papers

The Call for Papers for the next IPSA World Congress in July 2020 in Lisbon is now open. The 2020 Congress will have a diverse program under the theme of New Nationalisms in an Open World. The deadline for proposals is October 10, 2019.
Please consider submitting your paper or panel proposals with IPSA RC42, and also recommend us to your colleagues, so we get panels of great variety and depth. We particularly welcome proposals from women, as panels have to include at least one woman to be accepted!
We have already prepared several open panels, but welcome others, too, as long as they fall in the wide remit of the RC:
Dealing with North Korea
Nationalism and (Dis)Integration
Reconciliation in Times of Nationalism
Security in Northeast Asia
US-China Competition

Please visit the website wc2020.ipsa.org to submit your paper proposal, for more information on the Congress, important deadlines and submission guidelines.
You do not need to be an IPSA member to submit proposals. If you do not currently hold an IPSA account, you will be asked to create one. Once your proposal is accepted, you will have to become an IPSA member and register to attend the World Congress.
RC42 does not offer travel support or help with visa, for these questions, please contact the conference organisers.

KPSA World Congress for Korean Politics and Society 2019

The Korean Political Science Association is holding its biannual World Congress for Korean Politics and Society in June 2019 in Seoul, South Korea, under the motto: "Korean Peninsula for Peace and Prosperity: Integration and Innovation"

IPSA RC 42 is planning to submit at least two panels, so invites all interested to submit a paper proposal first to the chair at IPSA.RC42@gmail.com by 20. January 2019. I will then form panels. We particulary encourage proposals by graduate students.
One suggestion for a panel is "The interaction of a unified Korea with the New Asia of the Shanghai cooperation", but we are open to proposals from all areas of our research committee's remit. I am looking forward to your proposals.
All the best for 2019!

Call for proposals

The deadline for the submission of proposals for the next World Congress is getting closer: October 10, 2017

We welcome both panel and paper proposals on topics within the RC's remit. Panel proposals need to be registered complete with participants.  If you have ideas or suggestions for panels but lack further participants, please let me know so I can include your suggestions in future calls for papers.

Some panel proposals that have already been suggested include:

  • conflicts between and within divided societies,
  • elite integration in post-authoritarian societies,
  • memory politics,
  • cross-border cooperation on environmental issues.
  • a roundtable with specialists on North Korea to discuss the latest developments (each participant presents a short statement and then discuss).

First call for Papers for World Congress 2018

Although the last IPSA World Congress was held less than a year ago, the preparations for the next Congress are beginning. You can see the progress at the homepage at http://wc2018.ipsa.org/events/congress/wc2018/home. You can now upload proposals for panels as well as papers, until 10 October 2017. I would like to encourage you to register your proposals under the RC42 heading. The 2018 IPSA World Congress’ theme “Borders and Margins” fits very well with the RC’s specialization.

In a change from the last Congress, panel proposals need to be registered complete with participants. So you cannot just submit proposals for panels, allowing other interested participants to join. If you have ideas or suggestions for panels, but lack further participants, please let me know so I can include your suggestions to further calls for papers.

In line with the RC’s tradition and remit, we welcome papers and panels related to security issues of (formerly) divided countries and societies.

We warmly encourage you to submit panel proposals on other topics with the RC but please also note that proposals covering the broader issues of security in International Relations should be submitted to the Congress General Sessions on International Relations or other RCs.

Some panel proposals that have already been suggested include:

  • conflicts between and within divided societies,
  • elite integration in post-authoritarian societies,
  • memory politics,
  • cross-border cooperation on environmental issues.

I am looking forward to receiving many interesting proposals.
